Filterfunk - SOS (Message in the Bottle)
Released: Now
The man behind Filterfunk and their re-working of the classic Polic Track is dj Sander Van doorn. Known more for his remixing of progressive/trance tracks he released this bootleg last yr on a limited CDR. It gained huge popularity amongst the dance community and was snapped up to be given a full release. Remixes come from Hi-Tack (who seem to be very much flavour of the month with everyone), Sander Van Doorn himself, Tom Novy and Uniting Nations.
The Hi Tack remix is a standard clubby/commercial mix suitable for your avergage dancefloor and does nothing special with the material. The Filterfunk remix is a stripped back, filtered and minimal affair using only the vocal sparingly. It makes it more a 3am affair.
Sander's mix has echoey vocals and a strings section which reminds me of tiestos remix of Delerium "silence". It probably makes the most of the vocal, turning it into a much trancier version of the track.
The tom novy mix adds a touch of funkiness to the proceedings with a stronger clearer use of the sample. the Guitar and Sting's singing can be heard more in the mix of the track, and it does seem at times as if it has just been cut and pasted over some drums. he hasnt really been creative with the material.
I refuse to listen to the Uniting Nations mix!
The track is nice and catchy and unleashed on the right crowd could send them into a frenzy, so ill definitely be stocking it in my record bag.
